This is due to constant innovation taking place on both the technology side (e.g., by the major platforms constantly adding new features and services) and the user/consumer side (e.g., people finding new uses for social media) of social media.ĭefinitionally, social media can be thought of in a few different ways. Social media as we know it today is different than even a year ago (let alone a decade ago), and social media a year from now will likely be different than now. Vitally, social media is always changing. Moreover, social media is culturally significant since it has become, for many, the primary domain in which they receive vast amounts of information, share content and aspects of their lives with others, and receive information about the world around them (even though that information might be of questionable accuracy). It is important to consider the future of social media in the context of consumer behavior and marketing, since social media has become a vital marketing and communications channel for businesses, organizations and institutions alike, including those in the political sphere.

Therefore, we ask a pertinent question, what is the future of social media in marketing?Īddressing this question is the goal of this article. Despite what academics and practitioners have studied and learned over the last 15–20 years on this topic, due to the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of social media-and how consumers use it-the future of social media in marketing might not be merely a continuation of what we have already seen. Academically, social media has also been embraced, and an extensive body of research on social media marketing and related topics, such as online word of mouth (WOM) and online networks, has been developed. Given the massive potential audience available who are spending many hours a day using social media across the various platforms, it is not surprising that marketers have embraced social media as a marketing channel. Globally, the total number of social media users is estimated to grow to 3.29 billion users in 2022, which will be 42.3% of the world’s population (eMarketer 2018).

Facebook, for example, reported having 2.38 billion monthly active users and 1.56 billion daily active users as of Ma(Facebook 2019). The on-board NICs, which aren't being used at this time, are Broadcom based.Social media is used by billions of people around the world and has fast become one of the defining technologies of our time. I did notice that eth0 and eth1 are on the dual port Intel NIC using the e1000e driver. On the Nokia firewall, our network admin set it to 'auto' and I re-ran the /etc/init.d/networking script.īut then about 15 minutes later, this was reported: 'mii-tool eth0 -F 100baseTx-FD') but this gave the same 'no link' issue as well. I also tried it via mii-tool as well (i.e. I tried to do 'ethtool -s eth0 100 speed duplex full', but this instantly drops the eth0 link on the NIC. I have moved the ethernet cable to different ports on both Cisco switches and they all come up with the same result as above as takes all the steps to get them to come up to both showing 100MB full-duplex. Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/FullĪdvertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full Then if I just do '/etc/init.d/networking restart', then I get the solution I wanted in the first place. 'mii-tool -F 100baseTx-FD eth0', I then get this message: If I try to hard set eth0 to 100MB full-duplex (i.e. if I run mii-tool the first time, I get this message:Įth0: no autonegotiation, 100baseTx-HD, link ok So then I go into the terminal to do a little bit of fact finding and testing.įrom the terminal. Upon reboot, the web interface shows the external NIC (eth0) as 100MB, but only half-duplex. NOTE: For testing purposes, the external interface (eth0) is plugged into the primary Cisco 2960 Switch and the internal interface (eth1) is plugged into another separate Cisco 2960 Switch. The intended result is to have both the external (eth0) and the internal bridged NIC (eth1) to be seen as 100MB full-duplex. I have a UT 6.1 server running a dual Intel NIC (e1000e driver).
